A variety of active Global Positioning System (GPS) modules including the antenna, Low-Noise Amplifier (LNA), and LTE TX rejection filter is available. Using an active GPS antenna module is typically a simple design solution as only a 50 Ω transmission line from module to nRF9160 GPS input and supply to GPS module must be provided.
Typically, active GPS antenna modules are a preferable choice due to their known performance. Modules with LTE TX filtering in the LNA input should be selected, as the LTE TX isolation requirement is difficult to achieve solely by antenna design in a small device.
